Monologues From Plays

can anyone suggest some good movie monologues?

okay, so i need some movie monologues for my class but they can't be from anything too famous or obvious and not a comedy either. basically is there a scene in a movie that grabbed you by just it's dialogue?

  1. The epilogue to American History X about hate and stuff. It's pretty good. Also the scene in the Family Stone where everyone is at the Dinner Table and the issue of homosexuality comes up.
  2. Many consider Tom Cruise's character's monologue in Magnolia to be powerful...you should check it out.
  3. Always like the scene from True Romance between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken. It would be more Hopper's monologue about Sicilians with the overall tone and mood each character goes through. They each can play classic bad guy/hard ass characters and it's interesting to see those two actors interact in that type of showdown scenario
  4. Have to agree, the scene in True Romance rocks, Hopper and Walken at their best
  5. The opening of Patton comes to mind. Also The Godfather. "I believe in America." man that stuff is pure gold.
  6. Depends on what you want to convey. Some of my favorites: - Alec Baldwin in "Glengary Glen Ross", as a regional manager giving a "pep" talk to a group of salesmen, some of whom will get fired. - Emilio Estevez in "Breakfast Club", when he explains why he's in detention, and the pressure he feels from his dad. - James Earl Jones in "Field of Dreams", his "they will come" speech to Kevin Costner. - Brad Dourif in "Exorcist 3", as a serial killer explaining the art of what he does. - Robin Williams in "Fisher King", describing the legend of the Fool and the Fisher King. - Tom Hanks, in "Philidephia", describing the emotional reaction to listening to an opera. Those are some I really like, and not too well known. If you are interested in any of them further, you can message me.
