Monologues From Plays

What is a good classical monologue for a female?

I'm auditioning at different college for theatre scholarships in a month. One of my monologues has to be classical. I'm planning on doing one of the nurse monologues from Romeo and Juliet, but I'm having second thoughts. So can someone suggest a dramatic, classical monologue? I don't want it to be overdone. Please help. Thanks!

  1. I love Queen Margaret from Richard III. Where she calls them dogs. It's a roller coaster of emotions and very strong.
  2. Something from "Tartuff". Any of the wife's monologues would do. Tartuff is a play that's all in rhyme. When I did it about 6 years ago, I played the maid, Dorine. But she didn't do anything that would be good for an audition. However, the wife, she had a lot of really good stuff, and long too. Check it out. It's spelled Tartuff or Tartuffe.
  3. Maybe some "Joan of Ark"? Very strong female role, plenty of speaches to the masses to choose from... Just a thought.
